I'm going back to Toronto tomorrow morning. I'm betting I'll be seeing a much larger kitten. This photo was from my week home in November. It'll be nice to be home and be able to focus on studying because I definitely have not done much of it in Montreal this past week. I also need to get my Creative Writing pieces in order (and actually start writing).

On Sunday I'm going to this Craft sale in Toronto that I am really excited about! I have already planned to get all of my Christmas gifts there. More info about "City of Craft" here if you live in Toronto and are interested in going!

My fall semester is coming to an end. I had the most amazing weekend! I only have one exam on the 15th so I am trying to take advantage of my free time and explore the city before it gets unbearably cold.

So this weekend I saw feist! It was unbelievable. My friends and I got there about an hour before so we were feet away from Feist when she performed! Also, we witnessed the most adorable proposal! At one point in the concert, the video camera on stage zoomed in onto this drum that had a little note with a proposal on it. Before the next song started, Feist asked what had happened and the entire crowd was silent until the guy yelled, "She said yes!" and the entire venue cheered! It was amazing.

I also made a doilie garland finally! I have about 1000 doilies in my room and they have been in their packages until yesterday. I'm liking how it looks in my room!

When I went exploring yesterday I also picked up issue 11 of Four Minutes to Midnight with the most beautiful illustrations. Kevin Lo, the creator of Four Minutes to Midnight, actually spoke to one of my classes this semester. Anyway I haven't had the chance to read through it yet, but the illustrations by Sophie Jodoin are really beautiful. More about the zine here.

I also FINALLY got my hands on a Lula issue! I've been wanting one for so long. My friend works at a magazine store and picked one up for me. I'm glad I know where to find them now. I've just started looking through it, but I am definitely falling in love. Miranda July is interviewed! There is photography by Autumn de Wilde! Perfect issue!

Hopefully I will have more to post later this week because I vowed that I will not start studying until the 8th and until then need to explore and have as much fun as possible!

Watched this in one of my classes a few weeks ago.. It's so beautiful. Almost done my semester and there will definitely be more blog posts after this insane week of work!

My family got a kitten! I went home this past weekend to go visit, and had a new little friend to meet me. Being home was nice and relaxing before the hectic month ahead of me school-wise. This semester has honestly gone by so fast because I've been so busy and I can't believe it's almost over. I'm going to be working on more personal projects come December, I have a few things in mind but have not had any time to experiment with them yet. But I really want to start combining my Creative Writing work as well as my Graphic Design work since that's literally all I've been doing since September. I hopefully will have more pictures to share when I get around to developing them, and I'm hoping the pictures of the kitten turn out. Photographing her proved to be really difficult since she wouldn't stay in place for more that 2 seconds. She still doesn't have a name yet, so let me know if you have any suggestions!

Photo by Oyku Oge found here.

Sunday Morning

Passions of rain, or moods in falling snow;
Grievings in loneliness, or unsubdued
Elations when the forest blooms; gusty
Emotions on wet roads on autumn nights;
All pleasures and all pains, remembering
The bough of summer and the winter branch.

We live in an old chaos of the sun,
Or old dependency of day and night,
Or island solitude, unsponsored, free,
Of that wide water, inescapable.
Deer walk upon our mountains, and the quail
Whistle about us their spontaneous cries;
Sweet berries ripen in the wilderness;
And, in the isolation of the sky,
At evening, casual flocks of pigeons make
Ambiguous undulations as they sink,
Downward to darkness, on extended wings.

Wallace Stevens

(I haven't posted the entire poem, just my favourite parts, but you should all go read it).

Soooo this was the vector I was talking about in my last blog post! I had some free time and wanted to experiment with making more realistic vectors because mine haven't been so great in the past. I'm pretty happy with this one! The quality is pretty awful here, so check out my flickr page if you want to see a higher quality version!

Anyway just thought I'd share some of the projects I've been working on. Now back to pinning! I'm obsessed. Does anyone else have an account?

My room at its cleanest (these were taking a loonngggg time ago). This weekend was surprisingly slow work wise so I was able to experiment with vectors that I'm actually really happy with (photos will hopefully come soon - still working on it). Also finished a roll of film which includes the nicest weekend in Toronto as well as some photos from Montreal in fall, I'm really excited to get them developed!

Soooo I haven't exactly been making good on my promise to post more often, school has been completely hectic the last few weeks! I did get a chance to go back to Toronto for Thanksgiving which was really nice, I'll have photos from that as soon as I can get myself over to the store to get them developed. The weekend was so beautiful and surprisingly warm, so I was busily running around the city to take advantage of the amazing weather.

I've been thinking that since my whole life revolves around school right now, I should start posting some of my design work that I make in class. For my last intermedia assignment, we were given the task of creating a typeface. Being creative with our materials was highly encouraged, so I decided to use 35mm film to create my alphabet. My idea of collage quickly evolved into 3D letters and I used a light box to capture the traces of the photographs on the strips of negative. Anyway here is my completed typeface:

You can view the full version on my flickr account if you are interested! Anyway that took up wayyy too many hours of my life these past few weeks so I just wanted to share.

Hello! I have been so MIA but I hope the new photos make up for it. This past month has been such a change, its been difficult to focus on the blog or anything other than my new environment. School has also started, and work has been consistently overwhelming but I definitely want to start focusing on my blog now!

I live in this amazing old house in Montreal where the floors creak in just the right way. I am slowly adjusting to my new room and its finally feeling so homey. The white radiators around my room are also prime shelving space for all of my trinkets (I feel like such a hoarder in this new house) and the photography above is my bedroom view.

School has been a little overwhelming since I have started my creative writing minor but I'll stick to the positives for this blog entry haha. Anyway I have lots of reading to do, but I promise I'll be posting more consistently from now on!

It's been a week! I am so busy this week it's pretty stressful. I leave for Montreal on Thursday morning, so I am packing like crazy today and tomorrow. Almost done with my clothes, but so much left to do!

I've also been having problems with my new camera.. so upsetting! I can't seem to open the battery compartment. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried using some vinegar which didn't work. I might try to use some heat later to see if that makes a difference but I am so frustrated!

Anyway the next post I write will be coming to you from Montreal! Hopefully I fix my camera before then and can get some good photos. Now, I need to get back to packing. I've been procrastinating all morning.

I've been shopping quite a bit this week haha. And I still have more things to buy before I go back to school! I am desperately looking for sweaters to bundle up in during the montreal winter I am already anxiously anticipating. I can't find any that fit nicely, it's so frusterating! I'm going vintage shopping tomorrow and may have better luck with that I guess. Anyway here are some things I bought recently:

My time in Toronto is coming to an end and I'm feeling such a mix of emotions. It's been a long summer, and a huge part of me is ready to go back to Montreal. At the same time, I know many changes are coming my way which is both stressful and exciting. I really need to focus on staying positive because my main concern is to get back into the same rut as last fall. I think that is where most of my nerves are coming from - the fear that my feelings from last fall will come back. It was such a hard time for me and I'm so glad I became comfortable in Montreal and ended up having a great year there after.

Sorry for such an intense reflection on a Monday, I've just been thinking about everything I need to do before I leave! I think I may go shopping for some shoes today! I'll be sure to post some pictures.

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Sorry I've been MIA for so long! I have some bad news, my photoshop trial ran out.. But I will be getting Adobe from my school store in a few weeks when I go back to Montreal! So more of the weekly favorites in store, I may just have to skip a few of them. I am going to get the illustrator trial and hopefully I can do some things with that! I have an interview/meeting today and I'm pretty nervous, so wish me luck! Hope it goes better than this:

Anyway hope everyone's week is going well, hopefully I will have more things to share soon!

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

You don't even know how happy I was when I found this picture of Zach Condon wearing a cardboard crown haha! Owen Pallett and Beirut concert tonight, I'm so excited!!! Image from here

Monday, August 1, 2011

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I saw Crazy Stupid Love this weekend and loved it. It was really funny but also had very serious and sad parts throughout. Cried so hard at the end. I kind of want to see it again but I'll probably wait for the DVD release haha.

I also went to H&M and did some shopping, definitely need to go back for more things, only ended up getting one top. I'm desperately trying to find warm sweaters for Montreal (already anxiously fearing the freezing winters) and couldn't find any (that were reasonably priced) anywhere! I feel like I'll end up needing to scour the men's sections at various stores..

1// This is just one photograph, I wish I had more pictures of this space, it's so lovely. I love the splashes of colour and brightness in the room. Looks so homey! Found image here.
2//Definitely my next sewing project! I love scalloped skirts, and this one is really cute. The website I found this on, Burda Style, is really great and there are a bunch of free patters. Here is the link for the skirt pattern.
3// Creamy avocado pasta. How is this even possible! I want to try this right away. Found the recipe here. Oh She Glows is a great food blog if you are vegetarian or vegan, check it out!
4// I want this backpack for back to school. The backpack is from boyfren/girlfren and is so cool, I absolutely love it. Found via Commas and Clauses (a great blog by the way).
5// How amazingly comfortable does this sweater look? If I ever find one like this, I am getting it in every colour they offer. Does anyone know where to find one? It's been surprisingly difficult to find a simple sweater like this. Maybe because it's August? Haha, I'm just a little excited for my favourite season to finally be here! via here.
6// Now I love this design. So simple and I love the colours. The artist, Arian Behzadi, has a flickr found here. I find his work completely inspiring. Take a look! Found via Hazel Castle.
7// Like I said, I.am.ready.for.fall. Hate the heat. Humidity and my hair just don't mix. I hate wearing pastel colours. And being my level of pale in the summer is just not seen as acceptable. This photograph makes me so excited to start bundling up! Found via BLA.
8//Zach Condon! I love Beirut! I am also so excited to be seeing them tomorrow night. AND Owen Pallett, one of my other favourite musicians, is opening! Perfect concert, I'm so excited! Here is a link to one of my many favourites. Photo from here. (also, I LOVE HIS TATTOOS)
9// Lastly, aren't these rings so cute? Simple yet so fun and unique! Would definitely like to add a handful of these to my jewelry collection.

I finally left the house! Hahaha, it had been a while, so I am glad I got some air and walked around a little. The downtown location of Fabricland and everything is 80 percent off! It is only open for two more days, so I ended up getting way more fabric than I needed... So expect some new sewing projects soon!

I also got my photos back from my first roll with the Pentax. I'm pretty happy with them! I definitely need to get my light meter fixed so I can keep experimenting with it. The following images are some snapshots of the last week (which included seeing Harry Potter, dinner at Fresh, frozen yogurt, yeats poetry...) but I basically took all of the photos at Riverdale Farm. Which may be closing (ughhh politics), here is a petition to stop that from happening! I really hope it's saved, you can see how beautiful and peaceful it is from my photos.

Sorry about how image heavy this post is! If you aren't sick of my pictures and would like to see the rest of the shots I took, visit my flicker account.  Hope everyone has a great weekend, I will definitely be seeing Crazy Stupid Love tomorrow. So excited! Ryan Gosling love.
